We totally aim to be a capable and polished daily driver, and I believe in many ways we succeeded, but some things you would expect might still be missing. Ion is already past 1.0 so it should give you more stable experience. Nushell is also a full-featured language by itself which might go beyond what you'd think is a typical shell language.īut be prepared that things might change rapidly and we still have rough edges. As others mentioned, Nushell is very data-centric, so you'll see a lot of tables and commands that manipulate them and convert them from/to formats like JSON, TOML, etc. A lot of Nushell design choices come from transitioning from the "everything is text" style, commonly used by traditional shells, to "everything is data" mindset. I cannot speak for Ion as I have not tried it myself but I'd say, if you want to try something different, maybe unexpected, but hopefully fun, you can give Nushell a shot. Honestly, the only true answer is: Try both and see for yourself! We'll do our best to keep these links up to date, but if we fall behind please don't hesitate to shoot us a modmail.
